Das Wort Bias stammt aus dem Englischen und beinhaltet die Beschreibung von kognitiven Verzerrungen. «Unconscious Biases» sind bestehende kognitive Prozesse, die tief in uns verwurzelt sind. Sie treten oft unbewusst auf und können lediglich auf Annahmen basieren. Es findet eine Bewertung oder Wahrnehmung des Gegenübers statt. Gerade das Gesundheitspersonal sieht sich oft mit Stereotypisierung im Berufsalltag konfrontiert. Die Literatur beschreibt, dass der «Unconscious Bias» zu einer Benachteiligung von ethnischen Minoritäten z.B. bei medizinischen Entscheidungen und klinischen Outcomes führen. Ein bewusster Umgang mit «Unconscious Bias» und Vorurteile in der Praxis kann sich als eine Herausforderung darstellen, denn das Gesundheitswesen ist ein komplexes Arbeitsumfeld. Im Workshop soll einen ersten groben Überblick über Rassismus und Vorurteile im Gesundheitswesen sowie gesundheitliche Ungerechtigkeit erhalten werden.

Unconcious Bias and racism in the health care system
The word bias comes from English and involves the description of cognitive distortions. “Unconscious biases” are existing cognitive processes that are deeply rooted in us. They often occur unconsciously and may only be based on assumptions. An evaluation or perception of the other person takes place. Health workers in particular are often confronted with stereotyping in their everyday work. The literature describes that the “unconscious bias” leads to a disadvantage of ethnic minorities, e.g. in medical decisions and clinical outcomes. Dealing consciously with unconscious bias and prejudice in practice can be challenging, as healthcare is a complex working environment. The workshop aims to get a first rough overview of racism and prejudice in health care and health inequity.
